內容簡介 Ornamental patterns from classical antiquity and the Middle Ages, frames of plants and animals and symbols of local cultures are the essential part of classic decorative patterns. In the late 19th century, the formerly excessive use of Baroque and Rococo patterns can no longer be continued in the face of industrial mass production, for instance, of wallpapers, textile, tapestry and ceramic tiles, which desperately asked for professional pattern designs. As the Arts and Crafts movement popularizes the idea of fitness in the ornament to the thing ornamented, artists, by drawing inspiration from Japanese decorative art, Medieval Gothic art and natural shapes, were inspired to create arresting plant patterns with a natural and simple medieval pastoral feeling.
